God's Majesty- Omnipotent

Scripture- Exodus 15:11 says “Who is like You among the gods, O LORD? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, Awesome in praises, working wonders? (NKJV)”

This month on Faith Fountain the theme is ‘God’s Majesty’. To explore this theme, we first need to define the word majesty. According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, majesty is ‘sovereign power, authority or dignity’. Another definition that I like is ‘greatness or splendor of quality or character’. Majesty is ‘grandeur’.

Psalm 8 tells us that God’s majesty is known throughout all the earth. Verse 1 says:

“O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, who have set Your glory above the heavens! (NKJV)”

This Psalm further alludes to the fact that God’s majesty is seen in His creative works and Psalm 72: 18-19 echoes these sentiments: -

“Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone works wonders. And blessed be His glorious name forever; and may the whole earth be filled with His glory (NKJV).”

Today, however, we will take a look at God’s majesty by exploring one of three qualities that displays His greatness and splendor.

God is Omnipotent

The first aspect of God’s majesty that we will explore is His omnipotence. Now, what does it mean to be omnipotent? To be omnipotent is to have unlimited power or authority. And once again, Merriam-Webster for the win, because that dictionary also defines omnipotent as ‘God’! The Bible confirms this, and one declaration of God’s omnipotence is found in Isaiah 43:13- God says of himself “Even from eternity I am He, and there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?" (NASB)

In Psalm 24 verse 8 God is described as “the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle (KJV).” The Bible gives us examples of where God steps in to fight for His people who were outnumbered and would have otherwise been decimated (2 Chronicles 20). After all, Jesus did declare that what is impossible with men is possible with God- Matthew 19:26.

"For the LORD of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?" Isaiah 14:27 (NASB)

As the all-powerful and Almighty, God also is our source of strength:

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. (Isaiah 40:28-31, NASB)

I am glad that the God I serve is Omnipotent. I am glad that He fights my battles and I am delighted that He gives me strength for the journey!

Prayer: Dear God, I thank you for being the ultimate source of power and I trust that You can and will display that power in my life, in Jesus' name, Amen.
